SSS Wednesday Challenge – Mask It

Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge Blog

I don’t know about you but I eagerly look forward to seeing what challenge Simon Says Stamp gives us on a Wednesday. And I love seeing what everyone else makes too.  This week the theme is Mask It.  I am not good at this, but earlier in the week I saw a beautiful card by Laura Bassen and knew I wanted to try something similar.

SSS Lovely Spring

I was incredibly thrilled a few days ago when an unexpected parcel with gifts of goodies arrived for me from Simon Says Stamp.  You should have heard the squeal! Included was this pretty stamp set (and matching dies) called Lovely Spring.  Just exactly the kind of stamp set I love.  This is my first play with the stamps and I am in love.

I used my peek-a-boo die by My Favourite Things (MFT) to have the circle opening in a piece of heavyweight white watercolour card.  I prepped my card with an anti-static powder and then started stamping my images with versamark ink, coating them with white embossing powder and heating them with my heat tool.  I created masks for my first flowers so that I could stamp the second and repeated the process above until I had my circle of flowers.  I also heat embossed some of the grass and flowers along the bottom border.  Now comes the fun bit!!

I pulled out my kuretake gansai tambi watercolours – I had to get these imported from Japan, but it was well worth it – the watercolours are so creamy and have a great pigment.  I did very loose watercolouring, I still need a lot of practice but it is so much fun! Once dry I kept fiddling with the colours for a while until I was happy (and I had run out of time = crying baby). I used a damp cloth to wipe some of the paint from the white embossed areas but I also left some for added interest.  I stamped my sentiment with black India ink onto my card base, used strong double sided tape to glue down my watercolour panel and added a few droplets by pretty pink posh for decoration.  Can’t wait to practice some more!
